Anyway, my advice is not to give up and try again and again as I did . Here it is : After upgrading from 3.1.3 to 4.0.1 I downgraded to 4.0 it was simple because Apple let me do it . Then, I have my SHSH saved in cydia and my laptop , I saved it again (even the new firmware 4.0 and 4.0.1 , may be I need them in the future ) After that , I went to notepad and run it as administrator . open file C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts , click on hosts and add at the bottom 74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com . Then , I SWITCHED OFF my iphone and put it in DFU mode , opened iTunes , pressed shift and restore , added the firmware 3.1.3 for 3GS , and the restoring started . After a while u will see an error ( it was expected , and thats good) and ur phone will be in recovery mode (on the screen u will see the cable and iTunes logo) Ignore that error (click ok) and shut iTunes.
